Monday - Rainy Holiday

It finally cleared up about 4pm this afternoon.  It sure was nice to see the sun!  The forecast says only for today, though.  It's going to rain for the next 10 days.  Ugh.  Will summer every come?  I'm all ready!
Thank goodness I have a trip to Palm Springs for coming up.  We are going just for a weekend, once we are all done with school.  It's going to be hot and wonderful!  I tried on my swimsuits this weekend (sorry, not pics!) and they still fit...although I'm def. not looking to appear in public in one.

Trying on outfits: inspired by Chanel

I wanted to try a vanilla, pink and beige outfit after perusing some photos on of Chanel RTW Spring/Summer 2010.  I like the results!  I need to lose a little weight before I'm comfortable wearing this snug-fitting sweater, though.

Oh, and I wear a white cami under this sweater, just in case you were wondering...makes the color more true and doesn't show my bra!

Summer crops #2

I don't really love these pants, honestly.  I like the color and that they have a wide cuff.  But they do some strange wrinkly business around the crotch area that is not so flattering.

For the sun - newly shortened crops

These Classiques cropped pants where too long, so I had them shortened several inches.  I would have liked them even shorter - just under the knee - but I look them to the cleaners instead of a proper tailor where they have you try things on.  They'll do, though.  Much better than before.

This Marc by Marc Jacobs top is about five years old by now, I think.  Still cute!  I like pale pink with black a la Chanel.  There is an adorable dress in the latest Anthropologie catalog that is pale peach with black trim.  Lovely!  And only $128.  Add that to the pile of gorgeous things I can't afford...especially after this latest shoe splurge.

Speaking of the new shoes, they seriously make everything look better.  Aren't they awesome?

Friday - drip, drizzle

I'm going to admit that these new Stuart Weitzmans aren't the most comfortable shoes I own. But, so far they aren't the least comfortable shoes I own, either. Because the platform is about an inch they are only about a 3 inch heel. But they look like a 4 inch heel...that said, they are a bit dangerous; trip and you could break an ankle!

The shoes, combined with this awesome Helmut Lang tank make for one tasty Friday. Happy weekend!

In spite of my resolutions - new shoes

Even on sale these were way outside my (nearly non-existant) budget for some rain-friendly, comfortable, light-neutral pumps. These are somewhat rain friendly, but they certainly do not meet any of the other things I was looking for. That said, please consider this observation: Sometimes when you find something you really love you end up getting more wear out of it than if you bought something that fit your requirements but that you weren't excited about.

Thursday - workin' for the weekend

And yet another outfit repeat! I really like this outfit. Today I added this headband. I don't wear this headband often - I think the style is a bit hard to match up with a lot of what I own. The color looks great in my hair, but it's a little sweet and girly, so I have to pair it with just the right thing. I love it with my denim shirt.

Today was supposed to be decent weather, but it's just gray and sad outside. I wish I didn't have to work (work has been stressful b/c we are in nearing a milestone in the project I'm working on). I really wish I could just put on some flannel PJ's, make some hot cocoa, listen to to Elle Fitzgerald, and hang out at home all day!

Wednesday - the beginning of perpetual rain

Repeat outfit! Last time I wore this was April 20th. Seems like it wasn't that long ago, but time has been flying by the Spring! It's sad that the weather is similar to what it was back in April, but thank goodness the temps have adjusted up slightly, so I can go with tights and a turtleneck.

Today is the start of the half yearly sale at Nordstrom. There are a few cute things that I really want, but I am on a strict budget of $100 for the month. I bought a red silk tank by 3.1 Philip Lim. I've had my eye on it since it went on sale several months ago (at least, it seems like it was several months was probably February!). It is very plain and simple, but the cut, fabric and color are awesome! I'm planning to wear it with my cream trousers (which I still am on the fence about the length of).

I am getting to the point in the Season where I want to take stock of what I have, what pieces I really need, and what I want my style to be; I want to dress with more purpose! I also want to change my hair...

Monday - not a total disaster

OK, some days I wonder how I even make it out the door! I didn't have any big meetings today, although I did have one up in another building that is about a 5 block walk.

I wanted to wear this top. I like this top, but I hardly ever wear it for some reason. I thought at first that I'd wear it tucked into my high-waist Rich & Skinny jeans with sandals (it's not *supposed* to rain today!). But, I've gained weight and I haven't worn those jeans since I last washed them, so they were not only snug, but also making my hips and thighs look awful because they were so tight.

I was tired. I decided to wear boots and skinny jeans. I didn't really think about how this top would look untucked but by this time I had run out of time. It doesn't look too bad; I like the contrast of the engineer boots with the silk cream top and floppy bow. I need to shrink, or else half my clothes will no longer fit properly. Plus, a weekend trip to Palm Springs is coming up!

Thursday - spring rain with boots

It rained and was extermely windy last night, and this morning it was still spitting rain and very cold! I can't believe the temps are back in the 50's in late May! No fair!

If I had worn a more delicate shoe this outfit might have made my favorites list.

I don't like the way these boots make my ankles look thick.

Plus, I was fiddling with this belt all day in order to get it to stay in place, but I think that can't be helped when wearing a belt over a skirt that doesn't have belt-loops.

Other than that I like this look. Next time I will wear this with a pair of pointy-toe black leather pumps. It would look cute with cage sandals, too, if I owned a pair...

Thursday - Fab belt

Wednesday - new dress

It may be the slow change in the weather, but I haven't been happy with my outfits this week. Until today, that is. This is a new dress I got an incredible deal on at Banana Republic. It's from their "Heritage" line. It's satin in the back and chiffon in the front; very loose and flowing like a caftan. I like the beading on the front that matches my gladiator sandals. I wore my Current/Elliot jacket in order to dress it down.
The weather forecast was for rain, so I brought a pair of closed-toe flats with me, but so far it's been blue skies all day! Sometimes it pays to ignore the forecast...and sometimes it doesn't!
Also, today is a milestone because for the first time this year I did not wear a coat!

Tour in Napa

This was during the tour at Sterling vinyards, overlooking the stainless white wine processing barrels. I bought a bottle of Pinto Gris (can't recall the year ATM).

I originally wore gladiator sandals with this outfit and it was so cute! But, for all that walking around my flat feet needed way more support. I was glad I switched to my Birkenstocks, even though they weren't as cute.

Friday - off to Napa

I wore this on the plane, so I wore socks for the shoeless trip past security. This is not my favorite look.

Thursday - sunny and blue

This dress is very cute. I wish my footwear had been a little more inspired; I have a pair of nude patent cuffed sandals that I love to wear with this dress, but I was afraid that the thong between my toes would bother me, as I've been having some nerve pain in my toes this week. So, I opted for these cute but safe silver sandals.

I also have issues (with all my light silk dresses) with static when I wear this dress. I cannot figure out how to combat this issue. Any hints would be welcome. I've already tried rubbing with dryer sheets and pinning a safety pin to the seam.

Wednesday - cobalt & yet another headcold

I love the color of this top, especially with the white denim. But the style of the top is just a little too sweet for me. I would rather have something more sophisticated or fun in this color. I wonder if my mom wants this, if you're reading this let me know!

Tuesday - Summer is on the way

Today the weather forecast was for sunny weather, so I wanted to wear something bright and sunny! I debated wearing my white denim, but wanted to be a bit dressed up for a meeting I had today, so I chose these cream Nanette Lepore trousers instead.

This blouse goes so well with these trousers it's almost silly! The trousers even have some pale green top-stitching at the waist that isn't visible but they match exactly with the bit of green in the blouse. The blouse is an un-related brand - Mia Via.

I tried this on with a pair of brown sandals. I wanted to avoid the beige kitten-heels I usually wear because they are uncomfortable, and also because I wanted to wear something with an open-toe, to take advantage of the nice weather. However, I found that these pants are really too short to wear with a heel over one inch high! I had them hemmed for at least a two inch heel, but they are shorter than they should be. Standing on tile or pavement they are perfect with a flat. Obvious much too short for a two inch heel. And wide-leg trousers are the worst when they're too short!! I am debating whether to get these taken down, or to just wear them with these flats.

These flats were one of my first employee purchases at Nordstrom. I don't wear them much because they are brown and open toe; I can't wear them in the rain and I don't wear brown shoes very often. But they do come in handy for days like today!

Monday - rain

Oh, where do I begin? I didn't really feel my best today.

The trouble was, it was bound to rain today, so boots were a good choice. I wanted to avoid jeans, so that meant wearing these fitted "riding" pants. I wanted something long to wear, since I've not been working out and feeling kind of flabby, which lead me to this sweater. So then I just had to figure out a top. I picked one from the back of my closet that needs some love, then I added this new belt, which I adore.

I don't really like how it turned out. I don't like the shape of this sweater, and I think this is too much black. Eventually I belted only the blouse and left the sweater open and un-belted in order to improve the silhouette, but I still think this was too much black.

Monday - cool belt

Sunday - with jacket

Today was Mother's Day, and also the first warm day for a long time. I noticed that these eyelet army green cargo shorts are starting to look extremely faded. Plus, they pocket placement is not flattering. But, these shorts are soft and comfy. I need to find a replacement pair of casual shorts. I like that these are eyelet because it lends an interesting twist to a normally masculine type of item. I think it's going to be tough to replace these.

I wore my Birkenstock sandals because our original plan was to walk around most of the day. That didn't happen, but I do like these sandals. They are a touch granola, I'll admit, but I think the style and color are pretty cute for Birks.

Sunday - shorts, tank, sandals

Sunday - Spring

Saturday Casual

Out of Order - Monte Carlo Night

This was the outfit I wore to my MBA class "formal event". Last year we did a cruise and I wore this Rebbecca Taylor dress.
This is a Halogen cotton pleated skirt, and a Robert Rodriguez cream silk blouse.

Friday - sunny at last

After doing the Pioneer Square First Thursday gallery walk last night my feet needed some support today. So, I started with these white Naot sneakers (originally purchased for European Tourism). I wanted to wear jeans, as well, so I was immediately limited to this pair (it's my only pair that works with flats and is work appropriate).

Then, I wanted to wear something light because of the shoes and also because it is sunny today. I picked this top because it is feminine but quirky, which gives it a little unexpected twist.

I think the issue I have with this top is the ruffle. Clearly it hits at the hip, so isn't doing me any favors. But I can't decide how bad its affect is. Since the top is very straight, I don't mind the ruffle. If I were to belt this I think it would be a disaster.

That said, it does make my legs the focus of this outfit and even though I'm wearing dark denim I realize it's not the most flattering look. I may need to donate this top, sadly.

Thursday - the mother of invention

I was in a giant hurry this morning (perhaps this explains the stunned expression). I had a meeting at 9am in a building far away and I had to print out two different documents before...and of course I didn't really leave enough time. But, I made it!

But I didn't have a clue what to wear this morning. I pulled out this black ruffled silk blouse first, and was thinking of wearing it with a flowered skirt and my new studded belt. But when I pulled out the skirt I realized I would have to tuck this blouse in, and the belt wouldn't work. I'm not sure why I decided to wear this skirt instead, since I have to tuck the shirt with this skirt as well. I was going to layer on a red cardigan but I just knew that wouldn't add anything special (other than a little color).

Then I remembered this jacket! I was perfect because it isn't sweet at all. I also plopped on this little rhinestone clip-on earring onto my collar to tie the look together a little (the clip has now fallen off somewhere - at least I have another one - hopefully it turns up )-:).

I realize you can barely see the clip and the blouse in this shot, which is sad because it really is a cute outfit. The only thing I would have done differently is to wear heels. But that wasn't an option today since I have a lot of walking to do.

Wednesday - boots

This outfit is pretty bland. When I am tired I find it difficult to pull together anything interesting. I fell back on these cute boots as my "pop" for this outfit, but the rest is pretty lacking.

This sweater is a nice color, and a good quality cashmere, but it just seems to need something more. I debated throwing on a pearl and pink bow brooch, but the super-girly style of it just didn't seem to go well with the crazy boots.

Overall, this outfit is acceptable but nothing special. I think a scarf would have been a great choice with this. Now that I think about it, I have gold and black scarf that would have been pretty cute and funky!

Tuesday - new scarf

I am so excited about this scarf. These are my favorite colors; plum, dark red, and it's even got a little pink and grey in it. I played up the red/purple combo by wearing it with this red dress. I wasn't sure about shoes with this. I wanted to go with a silver pump and bare legs, but I had to wear warmer footwear and tights since the weather is cold and possibly becoming rainy today.

Monday - unexpected sunshine

Not one of my better outfits! Pretty bland, although I did get a lot of compliments on this top.

I went at lunch and bought a new belt which I switched to. The new belt is black with silver and bronze studs, so it added some interest to the outfit. So, the "tough chic" studded belt livened up the outfit, while the cut of the pants and top and the colors made the look modern but feminine. The belt has some silver in it, which picked up the color of the pants while providing some nice contrast with the bronze. Wish I had a pic! I'll wear the belt again soon...
